red-letter days

Chip's high school reunion was this past weekend, which coincided with the release of the last Harry Potter book. Needless to say, my mind was elsewhere during the festivities!

But, it was interesting to meet his old classmates, enjoy a video and watch folks relive memories. It did make me wonder what my 25th will be like. His class was 500, whereas Milton's class sizes are a little bit smaller... He was a little disappointed at not getting to see some people, and missed getting more time to chat with folks. I think that happens anytime, anywhere (weddings, funerals, bit birthday parties, etc.), though that doesn't make it any less sad.

We went up Friday to spend some time with his mom, which we hadn't done in a while, so it was good to hang out a bit. We went to the Courthouse Pub for dinner and had some excellent perch. Saturday morning we kayaked on the Manitowoc River (I sunburned my shoulders... guess I didn't apply that sunscreen very well!).

And then Sunday I submerged myself in Harry as soon as we got home. Pretty much read straight through Sunday afternoon and did the last little bit Monday morning before work (I was a teensy bit late). I found myself a little depressed, which is a bit normal, I think, to have something you really like all over and done with. Rowling's writing actually improved as the series went on, so I look forward to whatever she decides to pursue next, though she's said it won't be anything in the fantasy realm for a while. Can you blame her?
I also should report that I was asked to do my potions thang for a big party in Racine Thursday night. It was an enormous event with all ages participating and loads of costumes everywhere. Folks said they enjoyed my 'class', though I was a little disappointed with myself. I had 30 minutes and 2 classes, but I didn't know how many would be there, so I decided to demo a couple and then do taste testing. I was done with my demos in 10-12 minutes! Eek! But, I suppose, if everyone had fun...

what a positive thought--to look forward to J.K. Rowlings next writing endeavor instead of just being bummed that her series is done.

Hi Ruhama,
Now that I'm a free women (or somewhat free... the exam behind me and my husband gone for the week) I finally had time to read your blog. It's good to hear that people still enjoy high school reunions. I too wonder what mine will be like. Andy and I are blessed to have graduated together, that way neither one of us should dread the big event. Also, I'm glad to hear that you are using your kayaks lots. Unfortunately our canoe hasn't been out since the last canoe trip.
God bless you and Chip.
