Wisconsin State Fair

Sunday we spent a few hours at the State Fair with the Vendens. It wasn't long enough, but we did get to see almost all the animals (skipped the rabbit and chicken barn), including a week old calf! I was a little disappointed to not see any huge swine (there usually is a big pig), but we did see sheep getting shorn and a few judgings were happening while we were wandering through barns. And we saw a lot of light buggies going in and out of the horse judging arena--that was pretty neat. In fact, while looking at all the places animals were from--the cows were the best marked for this, by the way--I noticed one Clydesdale horse farm was from Kouts, Indiana! Unfortunately, I didn't write it down, so I couldn't tell you who it was (sorry, Bethie!).

But the main reason you go to a fair is for the food! We were suprised not to see more things on a stick (I heard rumors of s'mores on a stick), but still enjoyed several things, especially in the Wisconsin Products pavillion. The maple root beer from Lakefront Brewery was nice and refreshing, and we saw some products from Kikkoman that we haven't seen in stores. The potato line was huge, so we skipped that one. Eric had an elk burger and Chip cashed in the coupon for free cranberry juice. My main mission was to find french fries (which I did, and they were tasty!) and Sandra's was to have a cream puff.

All in all, it was a successful fair visit and we had good fair partners to walk around with us.

I'm jealous! I wanted to get to the fair just ran out of time.

Where is the fair? Is it in Milwaukee?
With the bridge going out, our traffic is going to be that much worse during our state fair. I'll let you know if we make it to the fair this year. We being Jillayne and me.

It is in Milwaukee, which isn't really a central location. Perhaps that's not the point--if you've made state with 4H stuff, you're going to make the trip no matter what anyway...

Carissa! We could try to go to the Walworth fair--it's over Labor Day weekend.
