He's been researching smokers for at least a year, and then I finally said it was okay to buy one (if he promised we'd use it). Traeger was the brand he choose, which uses only wood pellets (we got hickory). After looking up a few distributors, Chip found a guy at Apple Holler (which actually is a really nifty apple farm, with a restaurant, gift shop, bakery, kids's area, etc.) who had an entire kit with the Traegers he sold. This meant we got some sample spice rubs, as well as a cookbook!
So we assembled it and then had to decide with what we wanted to christen it. We both enjoy pork and decided to make country style ribs first. Three had a pork/chicken shake, three a BBQ rub and three were plain. They cooked first and smoked second, which I thought was an interesting way to prepare them...
They tasted sooooo yummy, though, and I look forward to many more items cooked in the smoker. Chip also made buttermilk biscuits to bake in the smoker: they were unique and rather tasty. And supposedly right now there is a deal with Papa Murphy's, too, to bake their pizzas in the smoker, and it's supposed to change your life.
We're going to research if we can smoke cheese in our smoker!

You know, I once asked Chris how often he would wear an expensive hat that he wanted to buy in the Rocky Mountain National Park and he promised to wear it a lot. You should ask him how often he has worn that hat
