torrential

Rain, rain on my face
Hasn't stopped raining for days
My world is a flood
Slowly I become one with the mud

So it started raining last week Thursday and didn't stop until Friday. That's 8 days and 6-7 inches of rain! There was a brief moment of sunshine Wednesday morning, so immediately everyone dashed out to mow their lawns (those that weren't too wet, anyway) because they were becoming veritable wild grasslands.

We have been fortunate not to have sustained much water damage or had any leakage issues, but I know the major home improvement stores had people stationed in the sump pump aisles just to get down stored product, as many folks did have sump pump failures and flooded basements, so even reserves were being purchased...

The Illinois Fox River that flows through Burlington overflowed and pretty much drowned one entire park:

All this rain does mean some other projects get worked on, though, including a garden shed for the back of the house. This will be most convienent when we need to quickly grab a shovel or hand rake as we work on the garden. Of course, Chip hasn't been able to park his car in the garage, which is probably also incentive to get this project done...

I can't believe it rained *even more* after I posted this entry, too! Ack! Our rain barrel has been overflowing for the past few days, too, with nothing needing watering... so it stays full...
