Early February, and you know what that means: Chip's birthday cake!
As usual, I handed him my big cake book and asked him to pick one out, also asking when would he like to have the cake. He wanted it on his actual birthday this year, which was yesterday. He picked out a smaller sized one this time, which was just fine, as we were the only ones going to eat this (Wednesday is AWANA night, so most of our friends are categorically busy).
So, without further ado, I present the cake he picked out this year: the Fabulous Lady B.
This is an angel food cake (baked in 6" pans) with a citrusy-fig filling (with walnuts), topped with sherry buttercream.
It was like eating a toasted marshmallow. The angel food cakes each had a caramelized crust, so put together with that buttercream, it was absolutely delicious. The filling took a little of the sweetness edge off, but it still was quite rich. You really didn't need a big piece to enjoy this cake.
A couple 'behind the scenes' photos for you:
If you want the recipe, get the book!
